Hmmm… was just on the Five Iron Frenzy message board…. just reading some stuff… came across a post that had something interesting in it.  It is Reese Roper’s response to this discussion about whether the nails in Jesus’ crucifixion went in his hands or his wrists.  Anyway, I just think it’s interesting because I have never really thought much of it before, I was always told by people that it was in his wrists, and I just accepted that… cuz.. it doesn’t really matter where they went.  But anyway, yeah, I never even thought about the fact that the bible definately says hands.  Anyway, here’s what he said:

“I disagree. It sounds like you kids have been listening to somne junior-scientist type Christian jerk guys, making a big deal out of nothing.
1. Why does it matter where the nail went, as long as Jesus died? What does anatomy have to do with atonement?
2. John 20:20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
– The Bible, in English clearly uses the word “hands”. Whether this is the proper Greek translation or not, It still works for writing songs in ENGLISH.
3. What do you know about anatomy and history? Historically, most crucifixions were done by TYING the condemned person to the cross. Nails were too expensive, unless they were going to be reused. Most evidence of crucifixion points out that nails were not a common thing. HOWEVER, to fulfill Biblical prophecy, Jesus had to be “pierced for our transgressions”. Ask any doctor what happens when you put a nail through someones Radial or Ulnar Arteries. If you put a nail through someones wrist, unless you knew exactly where to put it, you would probably cause them to bleed to death within the span of about 20 minutes. Yes, if you hung someone to a cross by their hands, the nails would pull through the flesh, but most historians and scientists believe that Jesus was ALSO tied to the cross.
4. This is perhaps the most stupid, inane, jejune arguement in the history of Christianity. I’m sorry I took part in it.”

All for now.

  1. These props I am giving are dedicated to Reese Roper who is most definitely THE man!

This does indeed show how dumb most Christians can be… sitting there debating over such petty issues when their focus should be simply knowing God and then making Him known.  How easily we get distracted!
