Well… it’s New Years eve…..;)

I suck at updating this thing right now but uhh…. jnust wanted to wish you all a happy new year 😉

Godspeed.

So I logged into blackboard today…  and clicked on systematic theology… and i noticed “hey, our final grades are posted”… i proceeded to check to find out what I got…..  and….  97 on my final exam…. which gives me an… A in the class as my final grade.  I was very happy about that.

Tonight is Fellowship of the Ring night… probably here, at my house, although it would be better to do it elsewhere.  Tomorrow is The Two Towers at the movie theater… (midnight showing, of course).

Anyway, yes, I am still immesely depressed about Five Iron breaking up.  If you want to join me in flying out to Denver, Colorado mid-november 2003…. be sure to let me know.  I WILL be at their last show… nothing but death can stop me 😉

The most depressing news of 2002… and well… quite possibly, my life…

This was found on the Five Iron Frenzy website (which, you will note, if you try to go to it, is no longer with us…)

“An open letter to all supporters of Five Iron Frenzy from the band.

Way back in 1996, just after our first album came out, we began to hear rumors that our band was breaking up. For six years we’ve insisted these rumors were untrue. We have always said that when we do decide to move on that we would make a very formal announcement about it and post it on our official web site to avoid such rumors from proliferating.

Here is that announcement:

By the end of 2003, Five Iron Frenzy will cease to exist as a working band. This means that after 2003 FIF will not be recording more songs or playing any more shows.

This was not an easy decision to come to, and we wish to thank you all for your incredible support since our inception in 1995. You have truly made this an amazing experience which all of us will remember fondly for the rest of our lives.

We did not come to this decision haphazardly. Every year we sit down with our pastor to pray about what the Lord would like us to do for the next year. We have done this since the beginning of the band and have always said that we would do what ever we think God wants us to do, even if that means stopping the band. After meeting with our pastor this year and spending several days in prayer and meetings, we have decided that it is time for us to move on.

Quite simply, the reason FIF will no longer be a band after 2003 is because, after much prayer, we feel like the Lord has called us on to other things. What those other things are will be as diverse as the 8 people who make up the band, but the point is that we all agree that this is what the Lord has told us.

The end of 2003 is still quite a ways off, and we have a busy and exciting year planned. Here is a list of things you can expect from Five Iron Frenzy in 2003:

*Our main goal in 2003 is simply to say “thank you very much” and give a proper good bye to you for supporting us for the past 8 years. Without you this would have all ended very long ago. We genuinely appreciate your support, and can’t say thanks enough for it.

*On April 22 we will release our B-sides and “funny song” album, which is tentatively titled “Cheeses of Nazareth.” We have been working on it for the past few weeks, and we think you will enjoy it. It will have some of our B-sides and some previously “lost” FIF songs that are really old, along with a lot of goofy songs that we are kind of making up as we go along (ala: “The Godzilla Song,” or “Kitty-Doggie”). This CD will be in stores on 5 Minute Walk Records.

*In early summer we will release a full length CD which will be our final studio recording. This album will only be available at live shows, starting (hopefully) in Mid-June. This is an album that we have big plans for (both the music and the packaging), and is one you are definitely gonna want to buy at our shows. Sometime in 2004 this album will be released in stores, but until then will ONLY be available at live shows.

* We will be hitting many major music festivals in the summer, including: Agape Fest (Greenville, IL), Cornerstone Orlando (Orlando, FL), Alive Fest (near Canton, OH), Inside Out Soul Fest (New Hampshire), Kingdom Bound (Buffalo, NY), Cornerstone SC (some where in SC), Purple Door (PA), and Lifest (Oshkosh, WI). For many of these fests, this will be the last time we EVER play in a 100 mile radius of the fest location, so you’ll want to check it out. (Also, there will be more fests added as the summer approaches).

*In addition to the above mentioned fests, we will also be performing at the original Cornerstone Festival in Bushnel, IL on July 4. We will be headlining the main stage on that night and helping C-stone to celebrate that fests 20th birthday.

* Starting in Mid-Sept and going through Mid-November will be our farewell tour. (Farewell as in this will be the LAST time you ever get to see us live). This will be a big one and will hit a ton of places. The tour is tentatively called “Winners Never Quit: The Farewell Tour,” and will be coming to a city near you (assuming you live in the continental United States.) Support acts will not be announced at this time, but it will be a good show, we promise. You will also be able to buy our final full length studio CD at these shows.

(If you are interested in booking this tour, please send an email to Booking@5minutewalk.com, particularly if you have connections to a college activities board that would be interested in this show.)

* The “Winners Never Quit” tour will culminate with a big show in Denver, CO in Mid-Nov, which will be the last FIF show.

*As previously mentioned, sometime in 2004, the last FIF studio CD will be released in stores.

No one ever knows the future, but if the Lord wills, these are our plans for 2003.

We know that the Lord blessed this band beyond our expectations. God used FIF as a vehicle to change many peoples lives (ours included). The important thing to remember right now is that our main goal has always been focused on something bigger than a band, something bigger than music. We have always tried to point to something that is eternal and unchanging. Bands come and go, and now it is FIF’s time to go. But our message has always been that God is an unchanging constant, and that through Christ one can receive peace, love, hope and faith. This is all we have ever wanted to leave people with, and we pray that God would continue to reveal Himself to us all.

Again, we can’t stress enough how appreciative we are of you for your support of us over the years. We hope that you will come and see us on our farewell tour so that we can say good bye.

God bless. Thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Dennis Culp, Nathanael Dunham, Keith Hoerig, Sonnie Johnston, Leanor Ortega, Micah Ortega, Reese Roper, Andrew Verdecchio.

(AKA: Five Iron Frenzy)”

I have been awake far too long. I am going to go to sleep now. And I am going to love it. I have my systematic theology final tomorrow. I think I should do pretty good on it. Hopefully. 🙂 I want to get an A in the class… if not, that’s ok, but.. yeah. Anyway, if you are back home in MD, I will see you soon, possibly as early as tomorrow night. To the rest of you, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. This is my last post from down here in Florida for awhile :)….

Godspeed.

Ah suck. I went and stayed up far too late studying because of my stupid being obsessed with playing my Alien Vs. Predator 2 Demo. So ummm… it’s now 4:30. I have a final at 8. Since I will have a need to review the info prior to taking the final, that means I would have to wake up at 7. That means that I am now at the point where going to sleep would do me more harm then good. The bad news is, I have my acting final after my radio final. Then after that I have to go and hand in my sociology final. Thank God I don’t have to do anything except show up to that one. I will be about ready to crash and burn by then.

I am now downloading the Soldiers of Fortune 2 demo. With any luck, it will keep me occupied for the next 2 hours or so before I start reviewing radio again and practice for my monologue some more. And the irish cream coffee I bought earlier is being my friend. mmmm… coffee…. caffeine…. anyway, if you read this and it is about 10 o’ clock… be sure to say a quick little prayer that I don’t fall asleep during my monologue 😉 That would be bad. It should be ok. I’ll do something to get myself all psyched and pumped up before I have to do it 😉 Or maybe I’ll take a freezing cold shower. That’ll wake anybody up 😉 Time to screw with the good ‘ol circadian rhythym.

On another note, it is now only 2 days until I go home. More accurately it is exactly 37 hours until my plane will be taking off from Tampa. I am looking forward to that time greatly. Becuase then I will be done all tests, and will be going home for a few weeks of total, complete, utter laziness. and sleep. (between the hours of 5 am and 1 or 2 in the afternoon, of course).

Anyway, Soldiers of Fortune 2 should be almost done by now, so I am going to go install it. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and that you have enjoyed much more sleep then I have this fine early morning. Godspeed.

Well, obviously I’ve been slacking here. I don’t really know why.. but… oh well ;).

Now that I have stuff that I have to do I again decided I should post, and I don’t really have time so this post is gonna stink.. oh well.

Western Civ final in a little over an hour…. 3 more days (counting today) until I go home. Thank God 🙂

Mark Salomon’s book Simplicity is REALLY stinking good. I suggest everyone go buy it/read it. It will cost you $25 to mail-order it (18 at a show). It is worth it, regardless of which price you pay. I got it on Wednesday. I finished it just a few minutes ago… about 3 days for a 300 page book… that’s not bad 😉 www.skeletonkeypublishing.com. Later.

Well, I have successfully thoroughly screwed up my sleep cycles… 😉 I slept for like 4 hours earlier tonight… originally I was only going to sleep for 2… but then I woke up.. and said… wow.. I’m still tired… so I set the alarm an hour later and went back to sleep. I woke up again… I asid.. wow, I’m still tired.. and again set the alarm back. I almost went back to sleep again the next time I woke up, but decided since it was then 10 pm that I should get up and do some work. So now I am not tired really much at all.

Of course, rather then doing work, I was visited by Adam, who wanted to give me free pizza in exchange for me coming and playing this board/card game called “Star Wars: Duels”. At the time, I thought it would be like.. a good deal of pizza. It ended up being like one piece, I was decieved.. but anyway… I went to do that. The game was stinking awesome though. I was really against the idea of it when I heard what it was and when I looked at it initially.. but it is seriously a fun game. Very strategical and only relies on a moderate amount of luck (so a good player can beat a not-good player most of the time). We played 3 games, we won one of them. For those of you not familiar with it, you everybody playing chooses a character… every character also has some minor characters… examples… Darth Vader has 2 storm troopers, Han Solo has Chewbacca, Yoda has 2 clone troopers, so does obi-wan, etc, etc. You roll a dice and can move your men around the board, which is basically just a battleground. some characters, like boba fett and some of the storm troopers, have guns. they can attack from across the board so long as there is a straight line.. otherwise you have to be next to the other person to attack. So basically, it’s the light side versus the dark side. The goal is to kill everyone on the opposing side. The game we won, I was Vader, and my teammate was emporer palpantine. They were uhh.. Han Solo and Yoda. Yoda kicks some serious butt in this game by the way. He singlehandedly defeated THREE of us in the first game we played 😉 Needless to say, I got over there shortly after 10…. I left there at 1 am ;). I would have definately stayed and played more if it weren’t for curfew… haha 😉 I just now started reading my book for western civ… am done chapter one, am going to read some more when this post is done… I am done my one paper for sociology… I have one more to write for it and then I am done everything for that class save my final. Radio: One more shift and I’m done. Acting: Done except for final. Algebra: Done except for final (which, btw, is going to be beyond easy ;)). Western Civ: Book report on this book and final. Systematic Theology: Done except for final (dear God I hope I did good on the test today ;))……. So there’s my update. As you can see, I’ll still have a good bit to do tomorrow… but thereafter I should be back to some semblance of normality.

All right… so it’s wednesday. You would not believe how much crap I have to do down here 😉 I had to do my 60 second PSA yesterday… (this constituted of both writing it and recording it) and I also had to get info on and do a presentation in sociology. I had to find a book to read for Western Civ, which I need to write a book report on. I believe it is due today. I will not have it done today. Maybe tomorrow. Here’s hoping he’ll accept it late ;). I read a very little bit of the book yesterday… the rest will be read today. I also will hopefully write the paper tonight. Then I have a paper to write for Sociology. I had to study for Systematic Theology last night, and am about to do so again as soon as I am done posting this. Anyway, then next week is finals. I’m actually kind of looking forward to them 😛 At least that means it’s the last week and I won’t have any stupid papers to write 😉 nah, never mind… finals suck. Anyway, last night I did go ahead and watch a movie… because… well.. I really wanted to watch a movie. So I bought Donnie Darko and watched it, as it had been suggested to me by Elliot. It was the most enjoyable part of yesterday. It was quite interesting and odd and had some rather amusing parts 😉 If you decide to watch it, and watching movies with a lot of cursing bugs you… there is a lot at the very beginning, but it dies down to a more normal amount after that (what is a normal amount? I don’t know.. it just didn’t seem excessive anymore I guess.) But yeah, I suggest it. I plan on watching it again sometime soon. Maybe before the semester is over… maybe immediately after I get home.

So ok.. if I don’t post until the weekend, don’t be too terribly surprised. I may, but I simply have a lot of stuff to do, so I’m not going to post unless I actually feel inspired or something (or if I want to procrastinate doing whatever it is that I SHOULD be doing, like now ;)). And now… off to study for that test!

I just went to Taco Bell. There was a sign on the window, which I read. This is what I read:

“Think our food is terrible? Take a look at our jobs!”

I proceeded to laugh for quite some time. Then, upon closer inspection, I learned that it actually read “Terrific” and not “Terrible”. But you know…. it was dark… all I could see was the “Terri”… and you know.. those words are interchangable anyway.

Anyhoo, I also watched Fiddler on the Roof today. For the ummm.. first time in a long time. In fact, the only scene I remembered from the last time I saw it, oddly enough, is when Motel (sp?) finally gets his sewing machine. But yeah… I liked it a lot, and all throughout today I have had various songs from it stuck in my head. My official opinion is: Not my favorite musical ever, as seems to be popular opinion… but it’s definately up there… it may be second best… as to what my favorite is…. I will leave that unsaid. Feel free to guess, and if you are right… I guess I will tell you so 😉

Also went to the Shabes’ house earlier… was fun. Had been quite awhile since I’d seen them. Tomorrow is church… and hopefully will hang out with Andrew… so.. yeah. Need to go to sleep now. Have a great remainder of the weekend!
