Just a little something I read and thought was interesting. Comment, tell me what you think.

Pornography and Creating a Rape culture

Pornography is about much more than sex; it’s about the fantasy world of porn becoming one with the real world. In the last decade alone, pornography has grown to a point that this purpose is being fulfilled and
pornography is setting the standard for sex in our society.

THE NEW GUIDELINES FOR SEX
Pornography is not just entertainment; it’s a celebration of a “fantasy world”. This “fantasy world” sets up false guidelines for sex based on scientific inaccuracies about human nature and response. Some of these new guidelines for sexual fulfillment (according to porn) are: sex anywhere, anytime, with anybody, is a good thing; sex has no consequences; people only have value from the neck down; group sex is the best sex; fidelity is boring; and everyone wants sex, even when they say they don’t. Pornography bombards its viewer with these thoughts, changing their perceptions of sex and replacing them with the value system of porn.

CHANGING THE VALUE SYSTEM
It does not take long for pornography’s value system to saturate the viewer. Dolf Zillman and Jennings Bryant of the University of Indiana conducted studies on exposure to pornography. In one study, they discovered it takes only six hours of exposure to pornography for a viewer to: 1.) question their perception of sex, 2.) have a decrease in the value of faithfulness, and 3.) perceive and dissatisfaction with their sexual
partner. 1

MYTH: “IT’S NATURAL”
After pornography has caused the viewer to have feelings of dissatisfaction and confusion, they soon embrace the pornographic images as guidelines for sexual fulfillment, reasoning that “this must be the best way to have sex”. All of this causes the viewer to start accepting uncommon, unhealthy, and perverse forms of sex. 2 For example, pornography glorifies anal sex as a form of sex that everyone should perform when, in fact, the body is not designed for that type of sexual practice.

MYTH: “PORNOGRAPHY DOESN’T AFFECT YOU”
These unhealthy sexual practices are only the beginning of pornography changing the viewer’s sexual value systems. Once the viewer accepts these practices as “normal and natural”, the next step is the acceptance of the rape mindset.

THE MINDSET OF RAPE EMBRACED
The mindset of rape begins with a single thought – That forced sex is good and that everyone wants sex regardless of what they say. The viewer of porn is first deluged with images of the “girl-next-door” enjoyed being
forced into having sex and subsequently realizing that their “purpose” is to merely fulfill others sexually. Repeated viewing of these images forces the viewer to conclude that “Since these girls-next-door in pornography enjoy being forced into sex, why shouldn’t this real woman sitting next to me be the same way?” This is the lie that pornography sells in order to makes this “fantasy world” as real as possible.

MYTH: “EXPLORATION IS HEALTHY”
In a study done by James Check, both hard and soft-core pornography were shown to 436 males who were then studied to see how it changed their sexual perceptions. The results showed an increase in sympathy for rapists and an extreme increase in the likelihood of committing rape. 3 Subsequent studies have confirmed those findings. Studies conducted by the University of Manitoba and Winnipeg concluded that subjects were more likely to rape if they thought they would not be caught. 4 This study also showed that although pornography does not turn all its readers into rapists, it does give the mindset of a rapist. Pornography cannot be viewed as something
healthy and natural if it does nothing but promote sexual practices and thinking that is neither healthy or natural.

OUR RAPE CULTURE
Our society is being flooded with the values of pornography. We live in a culture of rape, a culture in which every two minutes a woman is raped. 5 Pornography is a form of educating people on how to think like a rapist and embrace the fantasies of one. Pornography takes something as beautiful as sex and wraps it up in lies. The lies are then embraced as the standards for a normal and fulfilling sex life. Pornography must be fought, and the only way to fight its lies is to educate others about the truth behind
pornography. If you have any questions about this brochure or desire to speak with someone concerning the subject matter discussed within these pages, please contact PFY.

  1. Very interesting. Makes ya think. However there is good and bad porn. There is women friendly. In Pagan tradition sex is holy. Even orgys were considderd a holy act of love and connectiveness to the god and goddess.

We do have a rape culture though. And where as some porn is preptuating that mind set. *and as a rape victim* I can say that not all men are effected by pornograpy in a “bad” way. Some are. But porn is not the only thing that causes a person to rape. It’s a plethora of things. Mental instability, abuse, anger, inabilty to preform sexualy… Or just wanting to control and hurt.

However. My guy who indeed watches adult movies and reads erotica etc. And he is no rapeist sympasier. *wow I can’t spell… Oh no. It must because I watch porn.*

  2. Wow..see…since I never had a problem with pornography..I never thought about it at all..then when I read that..wow..it really does explain a lot you couldn’t see when you just see the word “pornography”..cause all I thought of when I heard that word was..nasty nasty boys and girls getting nasty pictures or videos done of them..and it didn’t go any farther than that..while reading that it really did have a lot of good points..and I can see how someone could get the mindset of a rapist or think less harsh of one who does rape…this world gets scary everyday it seems! The more you know..the more you don’t want to know…

  3. pornography of any kind is just yucky to me….i guess i just don’t understand why anyone would want to do that….anyways…great post…really gets you thinking about how certain things really affect our minds

  4. See as a survior of rape I can see both sides of this argument. Where as some porn is good and fun loving… There are sites like *bang buss* and other adult bad shit. But then again there are sites such as literotica.com. But I don’t think that porn is the sole reason for the problem of rape in this socity. And yes it is a huge problem. But to put the blame purely on pornography is just silly.

  5. Well, I don’t think anyone is putting the blame for rape on pornography ENTIRELY. Certainly there are more influences on a person then pornography itself. However, pornography DOES change your perceptions… how you view people, etc, and in doing so brings you closer to the mindset of a rapist… whether it be soft or hard, or “good” or “bad”. Pornography viewer does not = rapist. But there is a strong correlation between those who view pornography, and those who rape.

  6. thats seriously a shame 🙁 …not only does it hurt the person addicted but it hurts whoever Heavens got them planned to be with one day.

sometimes it just seems like theres waaay too much scary unnecessary sad stuff out there…

gottah keep the faith tho. 🙂

  7. You’d be suprised how much it can affect you…anyone know who Ted Bundy is? He’s the guy who would rape and then kill girls from FSU. He said that it all started with just a little porn and then that wasn’t enough so he had to get more. It finally escalated to what he did.

  8. i was exposed to pornography as a child and have always had the images in my mind that i have to live up to.  i am afraid that my husband will not be satisfied with me, let alone if somewhere along the way HIS mind becomes filled with the ‘perfect’ images.  i hate pornography and what it does. i always have.  i just spent time in russia where they don’t have rules against hanging porn in shop store windows and you walk along and are forced to look at that crap. (it was the same in mexico too)  I got so upset, to the point of crying, as i thought about people being forced to look at that, when there may be someone who is struggling to be free from it or another who may want to not ever look at it. pornography is disgusting and perverted and i wish our society could be free from it.

  9. I’m very sorry for your experiance. But once you infringe upon a freedom *yes it’s a freedom this is america you know…* Once the government takes away something as “evil” or “filthy” as pornography, who’s to say when someone who hates christianity makes it illegal…. There should be rules about it yes. Just don’t take it away from the rest of us.

  10. Eah. Not that I’ve ever used them…. EVER… But with as much damage as cigrets casue and other tabaco products *cancer enphasima etc* They are leagal…. Why not legalize the others? Some cause more damage. *Not like the army ever used asid on unsuspecting people… But that’s a horse of a differnt color…* Ever hear of a little group called christians for canibus? Good good stuff. Let me tell you. Yar…

  11. One more thing! *deep conversations got to love them* IF you do end up taking away pornography and making it illegal you’re going to be doing the same thing as if you take abortion and make it illegal. More people are going to get hurt. More people are going to get killed. All because someone thinks it’s moraly right.

  12. How do people get killed because you make pornography illegal? It’s already been demonstrated by fact that in places where pornography is not prominent there is LESS violent crime. And if abortion becomes illegal, and girls are stupid enough to try and do one on their own, it’s their OWN DUMB FAULT that they die, not the fault of any laws or of the people who made those laws.

  13. You’ve never been raped have you. You’ve never been made pregnat by a violent act…. SO you can’t know what it feels like to NOT want the child. Even if there is adoption *I’m all for it I can’t have kids* There has to be a choice. And girls would get hurt because of the LACK of a chioce. Thank you very much. You’ll never look at a coat hanger the same way ever again.

  14. wow, haven’t put my two cents in on this post yet……

memmielou, you make some excellent points.

reese, how can you talk about abortions when it doesn’t affect you?  twit.

    and that’s it from me…enjoy!
