After tomorrow it is fall break. 4 days of nothingness. how i have longed for thee.
the other day i noticed that “Saved!” is out on dvd. I need to go get it.
i was reading through www.familyguyquotes.com…. and have decided to paste this one here:
“Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I’ve got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there’s nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I’ll just have to develop a sense of humor. “
the end.
Wait, you like “Saved!”? Everything I’ve heard about it has been pretty bad. Why do you like it?
I think that most people who actually saw saved and disliked it simply can’t take a joke. I think they are very easily offended. Another possibility is that they are unable to enjoy a movie they don’t agree 100% with.
The movie is well made and funny. It points out many legitimate problems which are very much present in the church. It does exaggerate many things, and it does make light of certain things. But that is what comedies do.
There is a theme of acceptance which runs through the movie, accepting different types of people, etc, ultimately they sort of come out with this “it’s ok to be gay” message, which I don’t agree with the idea that they present of God having created someone gay, but I do think that Christians need to be more accepting of the homosexual community in general, rather then essentially shunning them.
I think it’s a movie every Christian should see. And if it offends them… then… good. Sometimes you need to be offended.
The thing that bothers me about such movies is not the reaction of the Christian community. Christians need as much criticism as anyone else.. perhaps more, because in a sense we should be held to a higher standard. And Christians need to be able to laugh at themselves, too (although when confronted with things like our hypocrisy then we should feel just as uncomfortable as we do amused).
The thing that does bother me about such movies is that they are unabashedly antagonistic toward Christians. And that gives the unbelieving world yet another excuse to dismiss us as misguided zealots, hardening their hearts just a little bit more. I can’t bring myself to pay money for something that does that.
