Speaking of video games, I ended up buying a Game Cube
yesterday….  it’s not as random as it might seem….  there
have long been several games I was like…  “I’d really like to
play that…. if only it wasn’t such a crappy system…”
but…  it got cheap enough that I decided it was worth it… for
the number of games that i want to play that are game cube
only….  at any rate, i bought a refurbished one, for $60… not
bad at all… and a fun RPG called Tales of Symphonia.

I thinik it’s going to set me back 1 more paycheck on the ipod… but that’s ok.

Also, I was reading The Inquirer site yesterday….  and they put
up an interesting article on Apple and their potential use of the cell
processor.  And it looks like that is going to happen, which is
REALLY cool, as speculation says that cell is going to kick the crap
out of the x86 (wintel). Anyway, here it is.  Also, ThinkSecret’s
speculation/rumors forums have an interesting thread related to this.

  1. The Cell will kick the crap out of just about every traditional single-threaded universal processor, but only in certain respects. What it’s mainly good at is massively parrallel vector calculations, which have a lot of applications, but only a limited number that really matter to the average computer user. There are drawbacks to using the chip, too. I’ve read that it will push programming back toward the hardware level (which increases performance but increases difficulty in creating new software.) It’ll probably take a while for people to get used to programming it, too, as the Cell chipset throws out a couple of the essential parts of the traditional computer model. It could take a while for programmers to figure out how to use it effectively, simply because it’s such a different beast than they’re used to.

All in all, I’m pretty excited about it, though. Microsoft should be concerned.

  2. I just sold my Game Cube for $50. It was brand new and rarely used. You missed out. I actually would have charged you more though just because I’m like that. 🙂 The system isn’t amazing but as you mentioned it does have a number of randomly cool games. It’s worth the money if you have the time to use it which I didn’t.
