The Matrix challenge:

Elliot (zeronitro for those who don’t know) wrote a pretty good post on this topic. you should go read it.

On to the challenge.

I have heard MANY people comment on how they didn’t like Reloaded and/or Revolutions. For the sake of shortness and simplicity though, we will concentrate soley on Revolutions. Now, as I said, LOTS of people i have heard say they don’t like it, or that it is “ok”. what i haven’t heard, are speciffic reasons as to why. People say things like… “there was too much talking” or, it was too slow.. however… i want speciffic examples here. what did you feel was too slow? where was there too much talking? and remember with me, if you will, that the original movie had a good bit of talking, and it’s share of slower parts, but you like it. So for these arguments to be valid, you have to demonstrate that it suffers from these flaws to a greater extent then the original. I simply desire to understand how someone can see the same movie i did and NOT think that it was great.

On another note…

[EDIT: oh yeah, also, I will point out reasons why I thought it was good later.]

The Final Fantasy 11 challenge:

Can I not play it with almost all my free time tomorrow? hmmm… (but hey, I’m a level 14 red mage…. that counts for something important in life… right?… no?… ah… crap.)

I do think it’s funny that the welcome message to the game says that they have no desire to you your real life suffer from you playing… and to not forget about your work, family and friends 😉

It’s a fun game.. but.. don’t get addicted to Final Fantasy 11, kids. just remember that getting that one last level isn’t really as important as you might think it is. 😉

“I’m just a stranger here, despite your everything
I’m not attached to your world of disease
Like father always said and I can only agree
Son they will hate you because they always hated me
and even though I feel alone
I know that I could never be.

Nobody knows.
Nobody cares.
Nobody sees outside our safe haven.

If it’s a choice between this veil of ecstasy
And all the lonely suffering of seeing this so clearly
If I’ve said it once I will say it for all eternity
I’ll find all the comfort that I need inside this bleeding
And even though I feel alone
You know that I could never be.

Together we are so, so ugly with rejection
But to our, our eyes we, we’re the ones shimmering
I’ve unpluegged the wires from your spine
At first you’ll be afraid
But we’ll be alone and so content
And we
will live…
again

Alone and so content
And we will live again

Just crawl across the desert heat
And become tragic with me
And now that we are not alone
You know that we could never be

Alone and so content
And we will live again.”

  1. the beginning was a little confusing for me at first.

halfway through i was just going nuts from sitting still… the movie wasn’t keeping my attention. so i don’t even know what parts to tell you about in that portion– it was just dragged on and on. i felt like the movie should be nearly over & when i looked at the time, it was only an hour into it.  I did think the end was good.  it was the beginning and middle that just seemed slow in getting somewhere.

AND i was quite perterbed that in the ‘club scene’ they just HAD to put in a very disturbing thing, that i won’t point out in case you didn’t notice.  (and, if you didnt’ notice, then just keep your eyes on the main characters and don’t ever scour the crowd.)

  2. I agree that the beginning was confusing, but then, so was the beginning to the original movie. I don’t think I was ever so confused by a movie (not counting like extremely artsy movies that simply don’t make sense to anyone ;)) as I was by that. The whole first half of the movie does nothing but explain it. That has always been the purpose of the movies… to confuse you, and to make you think to figure out what is going on. I don’t know what in particular confused you, I did not find it to be too terribly confusing.

Halfway through, I believe would put us…. somewhere in the fight for Zion? With the mechs and the sentinels and all that. I’m not totally sure on that, having only seen the movie once, I can’t remember complete timeframes… if that is the case, I don’t know why it didn’t hold your attention. I thought it was very well done… visually stunning, as was basically the whole movie. I think it was some of the best cinematography I have seen.

The beginning was setting up what was going on. There was a character introduction that was PROBABLY fairly critical to the story. Whether we will ever know for sure or not, who knows. This is certainly supposed to be the last movie, but there is also a game in the works that is supposed to pick up on the storyline. Anyway, I refer to the little girl… and how critical she is depends on how you interpret the ending, of which I am not sure if I interpretted the way it was intended to be or not.

The Matrix has never been non-stop action all the way through. There was always heavy philosophy mixed in…. There are plenty of action movies that are nothing but action… The Matrix was, as the sequels are, something different (different even from each other), which is what makes them great.

And I saw that to which you are refferring, and my only response to that is, that whenever you are dealing with an artform where the creator has ideals that differ from your own, you will find things that you disagree with and that may offend you, but you cannot allow that to entirely discount a great work. That to which you are referring took up a total of about 1 to 2 seconds of screen time…. while i would prefer it not be there, it does little to harm the overall quality of the movie.

  3. far be it from me to ignore a challenge! But I haven’t seen the new one, and I rather enjoyed the second so I have no objections I’m looking forward to see the end of the trilogy

  4. i didn’t get the overall point of the little girl at all.  i thought she was just there to help that little room thing make sense & tie into an explanation of the train.  that whole thing just didn’t make sense to me at all, other than a way to fit that french dude in the movie and have trinity say the line about doing anything for him.  i dunno.
