About

What is darkestLight?

I came up with the name a long ways back.  At the time, I was somewhat fascinated with seemingly contradictory ideas.  To me, the term evokes a feeling of hope amidst hopelessness.  Literally taken, I suppose it’s the smallest amount of light possible before darkness is total.  There are other metaphorical meanings that I could identify, but I leave that to you.

As to what this site is…  it’s a blog about whatever I happen to feel like writing about.  Maybe one day I’ll actually blog regularly, but until then, it’s a sporadically updated blog about everything.

Who are you?

I am a guy in my 30’s, living a life that is quite different from anything I ever would have expected, which is great in some ways and troubling in some others.  Who knows if that’s good or if it’s bad.  But here is where I am, and so I just have to keep going with it.

Politically I am a libertarian, which really just means that I embrace a live and let live philosophy and would really like for everyone to just leave me alone.  I frequently feel forced to care about politics, but really I hate them and would prefer to leave it alone, especially as it tends to not be a domain of logic or reason.  Perhaps one day I’ll manage to fully extricate myself from them.

If I was asked to identify my religious beliefs, I would say that I am a Christian Agnostic, which I guess is a seemingly contradictory term, and so may be appropriate for this site.  Wikipedia’s definition of Agnostic Theism covers it pretty well I think, stating ” An agnostic theist believes in the existence of a god or God, but regards the basis of this proposition as unknown or inherently unknowable.”  However, when I say Christian Agnostic, I really strongly identify with the Judeo-Christian tradition and find the teachings therein to be profoundly compelling.  So I believe in God, and I have faith that He exists, but I do not believe I can be certain of precisely what He is and that it is not possible to be certain of His existence…  So I guess I’m a bit of a heretic.

Other than that I’m a bit of a geek and watch a lot of movies / TV and play a lot of video games.

it’s pretty obvious that there’s no God
and there’s definitely a God!”
