{"id":97,"date":"2015-05-12T14:20:34","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T14:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/darkestlight.org\/b\/?p=97"},"modified":"2015-05-12T14:20:34","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T14:20:34","slug":"inspiration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/darkestlight.org\/b\/inspiration\/","title":{"rendered":"Inspiration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the downsides of working the job I was (not that I\u2019m not grateful for my time there) was that it seemed to sap me of all inspiration of creativity.\u00a0 For the past several months my imagination was so paralyzed I couldn\u2019t even find the willpower to push out the occasional blog post.\u00a0 And, as I have said here before, if I\u2019m not posting blogs, then I\u2019m not writing.\u00a0 It\u2019s not that I haven\u2019t had the desire to write, it\u2019s just that I\u2019ve not felt able to write.\u00a0 So the well has been dry for the last little while.\u00a0 But you\u2019re reading this now, and that means that I\u2019m coming out of it.<\/p>\n<p>Part of taking this trip back to Maryland was to try to recapture that.\u00a0 I knew I needed a break if I was going to rekindle it.\u00a0 Simply finding another job as fast as possible wasn\u2019t going to fix anything.\u00a0 After a week or so of just relaxing and meeting up with friends whenever they were available, I started doing some reading, and also watching some of my favorite movies, as well as some that I\u2019ve been meaning to watch forever.\u00a0 It\u2019s amazing how much watching a really great movie makes one want to write.\u00a0 Like many writers, I tend to be extremely critical of the things I write, but somehow despite that I still believe that somewhere inside me are great stories that people should hear.\u00a0 Perhaps I believe they are there, I merely doubt my ability to convey them in a manner that anyone would be able to tolerate.\u00a0 The one exception to that is with blogging.\u00a0 Right or wrong, I consider blogging to be garbage writing, so I don\u2019t really care what comes out except insofar as I\u2019d like it to be understandable.\u00a0 I mean, sure, I want you to like it\u2026 but it\u2019s not like, some compulsive need.<\/p>\n<p>I have a few ideas of writing projects and I\u2019m going to start working on one of them today.\u00a0 Since coming out to Los Angeles, I\u2019ve been a bit lost and without direction.\u00a0 It\u2019s nice to have some direction again, and I\u2019m going to be a bit more focused on the end goal this time around.\u00a0 Part of the problem may have been that my goal at some point changed, and I don\u2019t think I updated the plan to go along with it\u2026 simply \u201chaving a job\u201d vs. \u201cNot having a job\u201d wasn\u2019t enough.\u00a0 That goal is to be a staff writer for a serialized show.\u00a0 Since most of my writing projects have been features or shorts, it\u2019s pretty important that I spend some time working on some good specs.\u00a0 I still need to pick a few shows to do specs for, but a friend and I are planning on working on a spec for the renewed X-Files.\u00a0 So I\u2019ll be watching a lot of that in the very near future.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m glad I still have a week here to continue along in a pressure-less environment for just a bit longer, but I also feel like I\u2019m ready to go back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the downsides of working the job I was (not that I\u2019m not grateful for my time there) was that it seemed to sap me of all inspiration of creativity.\u00a0 For the past several months my imagination was so paralyzed I couldn\u2019t even find the willpower to push out the occasional blog post.\u00a0 And, &hellip;
